Job description
SUMMARY

The Centre of Psychotherapy Excellence (COPE), is a multi-disciplinary treatment programme that lies at the heart of Akeso's mental health facilities and specialises in mental health care services.

The permanent Patient Liaison Officer position will be based at the Akeso Parktown Clinic.

The incumbent will contribute and coordinate all mental health related activities ensuring quality care and support to patients in the adolescent unit and adults in the Highcare, General and Dual diagnosis unit.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Liaising with patients regarding their admission process and group attendance
  • Track patient attendance across all units
  • Provide consistent feedback to both therapists and nursing and follow‑up on group attendance
  • Provide engagement between nursing and COPE in terms of what patients communicate in the wards versus groups
  • Provide feedback to therapists and nursing on patients' general well‑being
  • Facilitate consistent patients' attendance across all units by conducting rounds throughout the clinic and common areas
  • Follow‑up with psychiatrists and management regarding patients who are resistant to attend group sessions
  • Active engagement in weekly ward rounds
  • Create notes on patients' engagement and general observations
  • Active engagement in weekly ward rounds
  • Report directly to the COPE Manager
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Relevant experience in mental healthcare
  • Experience in working with a diverse patient population and healthcare professionals
  • Knowledge of healthcare policies, procedures and regulations
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, firm handling principles, empathy and compassion>
  • Conflict resolution and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
