Placements24 is seeking an experienced AI Ethics & Compliance Officer to join our Soweto team. You will develop and implement AI ethics policies, lead risk assessments, and ensure compliance with POPIA and AI regulations.

You will guide project teams on responsible AI and monitor systems for biases and unintended consequences. You will collaborate with legal, engineering, and product teams, stay abreast of regulatory changes, and train staff on ethics and compliance requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
• 4+ years in compliance, risk management, or legal roles with tech/AI focus.
• Strong understanding of AI/ML concepts and ethics.
• Knowledge of POPIA and data protection laws.
• Experience in policy/compliance frameworks development and implementation.
• Analytical, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Independent with ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Experience in technology/AI sector is desirable.

• Knowledge of relevant South African and international data protection and privacy laws (e.g., POPIA).
• Experience in developing and implementing policy and compliance frameworks.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
• Experience in the technology or AI sector is highly desirable.
