Ovations Technologies in Johannesburg is seeking an Engineering Lead to drive technical implementation, engineering standards, and governance of Digitization and Automation (DnA) solutions.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can design and build technical solutions, conduct code reviews, develop proof-of-concepts, guide engineering teams, and ensure solutions are secure, scalable, maintainable, and production-ready.

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering or related field.
• 8+ years' experience in software engineering, automation, or solution delivery.
• Experience across traditional software development and low-code/automation technologies.
• Proven experience in code reviews and technical leadership.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership across RPA, Power Platform, AI, intelligent automation, integrations, and custom development.
• Define and maintain engineering standards, frameworks, reusable components, and best practices.
• Translate approved solution designs into practical engineering and implementation approaches.
• Design and review technical architectures, infrastructure, deployment models, and integrations.
• Build proof-of-concepts, technical prototypes, and reference implementations.
• Conduct code reviews and guide developers on coding standards, testing, security, and design patterns.
• Support technical governance, architecture reviews, and production-readiness processes.
• Identify technical risks and resolve complex engineering and integration challenges.
• Drive DevOps, DevSecOps, CI/CD, and continuous engineering improvement.
• Mentor developers, automation specialists, and engineers.

WE'RE HIRING: AI ENGINEERING LEAD – DIGITIZATION & AUTOMATION

Location: Johannesburg-Hybrid 3days in the office

12 months contract

Are you a hands-on technical leader who can drive engineering excellence across automation, AI, low-code platforms, integrations, and software development?

We're looking for an experienced Engineering Lead to lead the technical implementation, engineering standards, infrastructure planning, and governance of Digitization and Automation (DnA) solutions.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can design and build technical solutions, conduct code reviews, develop proof-of-concepts, guide engineering teams, and ensure solutions are secure, scalable, maintainable, and production-ready.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership across RPA, Power Platform, AI, intelligent automation, integrations, and custom development.
• Define and maintain engineering standards, frameworks, reusable components, and best practices.

Technical Requirements

The ideal candidate should have practical engineering experience across several of the following:

• RPA:Blue Prism or equivalent
• Microsoft Power Platform: Power Apps, Power Automate, Copilot Studio
• Software Development: .NET and/or Java
• API and Integration Development
• Microsoft Azure Cloud Services
• AI and Intelligent Automation Solutions
• DevOps and CI/CD practices
• Infrastructure and deployment design
• Application security and engineering governance

Qualifications & Experience

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years' experience in software engineering, automation, systems development, or solution delivery.
• Experience across traditional software development and low-code/automation technologies.
• Demonstrated .NET and/or Java development experience.
• Experience producing technical designs and infrastructure artefacts.
• Proven experience in code reviews and technical leadership.

Advantageous:

• Banking or financial services experience.
• Experience with AI, Azure, and enterprise integration solutions.
• Exposure to governance and production-readiness processes.
• Relevant Microsoft, Azure, Power Platform, Blue Prism, or architecture certifications.

What We're Looking For

A hands-on engineering leader who can move between technical design, coding, infrastructure planning, code reviews, and mentoring. You should be comfortable guiding multiple engineering workstreams while ensuring high standards of quality, security, scalability, and maintainability.
