Job summary

RWS is seeking AI Conversation Recording Contributors for a Lingala speech data collection project. This freelance, work-from-home role involves recording natural speech and annotating data to help evaluate and improve AI speech technologies.

Start date is immediate. The role offers flexible, task-based work with an approximate commitment of 2–4 hours daily. A quiet recording space, a headset with a mic, and reliable internet are required for participation.

Qualifications

• Native-level fluency in Lingala.
• Advanced level of English to understand written instructions.
• Experience with speech recording or data annotation is an advantage.
• Strong attention to detail when providing annotations and recording metadata.

Responsibilities

• Record or collect natural, spontaneous speech following project guidelines.
• Capture speech from real-life situations such as workplace conversations or casual discussions.
• Complete conversational speech tasks or voice/text interactions with AI systems.
• Annotate collected speech data according to provided instructions.
• Provide metadata related to each recording and ensure accuracy.

This short project offers an opportunity to evaluate and improve speech recognition and conversational AI technologies by providing spontaneous speech collected from real-life situations.

How Your Recordings Will Be Used

The collected recordings, annotations, and related metadata will be used to evaluate the spontaneous speech capabilities of speech-enabled AI models. The compiled data may be reviewed for quality and incorporated into datasets used for research, development, testing, and improvement of AI systems.

What You'll Do

• Record or collect natural, spontaneous speech in accordance with the project guidelines
• Participate in or capture speech from approved real-life situations, such as workplace conversations or casual one-on-one discussions
• Complete individual or two-person conversational speech tasks, or participate in voice or voice-text interactions with an AI or machine-based system
• Annotate collected speech data according to the instructions provided
• Provide the required information and metadata related to each recording

What We're Looking For

• Native-level fluency in Lingala
• Authentic pronunciation and strong familiarity with the target language through everyday use
• Advanced level of English to understand written instructions
• Contributors must not imitate dialects or accents that are not their own
• Experience with speech recording or data annotation projects is an advantage, but not required
• Strong attention to detail when providing annotations and recording metadata.
• Ability to follow detailed project and recording instructions.
