Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a diligent Agricultural Technician to support farming operations near Welkom. This role blends hands-on fieldwork with data analysis, using GPS-enabled machinery and cutting-edge agricultural technologies.

You will collaborate with agronomists and farm managers, perform field tests, monitor crops, maintain records, and help implement new practices. The hybrid position offers training and growth in a dynamic Free State farming environment.

Qualifications

• National Diploma or equivalent qualification in Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, or a related technical field.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain specialized agricultural machinery and equipment, including GPS-enabled systems.
• Conduct field tests and collect samples for soil analysis, water quality, and pest identification.
• Calibrate and apply fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides according to established protocols.
• Monitor crop growth and identify any signs of disease or nutrient deficiency, reporting findings to management.
• Maintain detailed records of field activities, data collection, and equipment maintenance.
• Support the implementation and testing of new agricultural technologies and research initiatives.

About the Role

Our client is looking for a diligent and technically skilled Agricultural Technician to support their farming operations near Welkom. This role involves assisting with a variety of tasks, from operating specialized machinery and conducting field tests to maintaining equipment and collecting data. You will work closely with agronomists and farm managers to implement new technologies and best practices. This hybrid position allows for some remote data analysis and reporting, complementing hands-on fieldwork, and offers a fantastic opportunity to contribute to modern, efficient agricultural practices in a key farming region.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain specialized agricultural machinery and equipment, including GPS-enabled systems.
• Conduct field tests and collect samples for soil analysis, water quality, and pest identification.

• Basic understanding of soil science , plant physiology, and integrated pest management.
• Familiarity with data logging equipment and agricultural software is advantageous.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety procedures.
