About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly motivated Agricultural Scientist with a specialization in crop science to join their research and development team in Tembisa, Gauteng. This role is integral to advancing our understanding of crop physiology, genetics, and cultivation techniques to enhance yield, quality, and sustainability. You will conduct rigorous scientific experiments, analyze data, and translate findings into practical recommendations for farmers in the region. The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research that addresses challenges in modern agriculture and supports the local farming community.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute field and laboratory experiments to study crop growth, yield, and resilience under various conditions.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret complex agronomic data using statistical software and advanced methodologies.
- Research and evaluate new crop varieties, fertilizers, pesticides, and cultivation techniques for optimal performance.
- Prepare detailed scientific reports, research papers, and technical presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with agronomists, farmers, and other researchers to disseminate findings and provide expert advice.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in agricultural science, particularly in crop genetics and sustainable farming practices relevant to Gauteng 's climate.
Requirements
- Master's or Ph.D. in Agronomy, Crop Science, Plant Biology, or a closely related agricultural discipline.
- Proven experience in conducting agricultural research, experimental design, and data analysis.
- Proficiency with statistical software (e.g., R, SAS) and data visualization tools.
- Solid understanding of plant physiology, soil science, and pest/disease management in crops.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reporting and collaboration.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a research team in a hybrid work setting.
