Placements24 is seeking a highly analytical Agricultural Economist to join the Paarl-based team. The role involves analyzing market trends, policy impacts, and economic factors affecting the wine and related agricultural sectors, with strategic insights for development and risk management.

The candidate will develop and validate econometric models, forecast commodity prices, and prepare comprehensive reports for management and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Agricultural Economics or related quantitative field.
• 5+ years in agricultural economic analysis, market research, or policy analysis.
• Proficiency in econometric modeling and statistical software such as Stata, R or EViews.
• Strong research, analytical and report-writing abilities.
• In-depth knowledge of Western Cape agriculture and markets.

Responsibilities

• Analyze local and international agricultural markets, including supply, demand and price dynamics.
• Develop economic models to forecast prices, costs and trends.
• Assess impact of government policies, trade agreements and economic factors on agriculture.
• Provide economic feasibility studies for new projects and investments.
• Prepare reports, presentations and policy briefs for management and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with farm managers and stakeholders to validate models and data.
• Monitor and report on agricultural trade flows and competitiveness.
