Job summary

SARAO in Cape Town is seeking a Project Manager: Level I to lead Agile project and programme delivery within its Engineering and Technology Development environment. The role focuses on agile planning, stakeholder collaboration, risk and dependency management, and alignment with SARAO governance to deliver engineering, science and technology development initiatives.

Candidates should have a BTech in Engineering/PM and at least six years of PM experience with Agile certification; travel within SA

Qualifications

BTech in Engineering/Project Management or related field.
At least 6 years experience in a project management role with successful project delivery.
Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Professional Scrum Master (PSM), PMI-ACP or equivalent Agile certification (Advantageous).
SAFe Agilist or equivalent Agile scaling certification (Advantageous).

Responsibilities

Facilitate project inception, discovery sessions and agile planning workshops.
Establish agile governance, delivery cadence, team structures and ways of working.
Facilitate sprint planning, backlog refinement, release planning, estimation sessions and prioritisation of work.
Support development and maintenance of product backlogs, sprint goals, release schedules and delivery roadmaps.
Facilitate Agile ceremonies, including daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, retrospectives, backlog refinement sessions and team workshops.
Lead, coach and support cross-functional teams in Agile and Scrum practices; manage risks and dependencies.
Coordinate execution of project deliverables and iterative releases across multidisciplinary teams.
Monitor sprint, release and project performance using agile metrics and reporting tools.
Ensure transparent reporting to stakeholders and governance forums on delivery progress.
Coordinate release readiness, transition and handover activities to operations or end-users.
Facilitate lessons learned and closure reporting; contribute to continuous improvement of frameworks.
