Job summary

A healthcare service provider in Mossel Bay is seeking an Emergency Medical Technician to provide specialized pre-hospital health care and maintain emergency vehicle readiness. The ideal candidate must have HPCSA registration as an ANT / ECP and possess strong communication and teamwork skills. This role requires calmness under pressure and adherence to strict protocols for patient care.

Qualifications

  • Must have a valid Code 8 or 10 driver's license and PrDP.
  • Minimum of one year experience post qualification.
  • Sound clinical knowledge and evidence-based practice.

Description

Job Purpose :

To provide specialized pre-hospital health care to injured sick infirm and aged persons and emergency transport to medical facilities at ANT / ECP / Ndip in EMC level of care when required.

Key Performance Areas:
  • Safe patient care in compliance within HPCSA protocols as an ANT / CCA / Ndip in EMC.
  • Apply advanced clinical skills in pre-hospital emergency care including diagnostics medication administration and procedures.
  • Efficient handling of and response to emergency calls as per company policy.
  • Maintain operational readiness of emergency vehicles and equipment.
  • Maintain clear professional communication with patients colleagues and other emergency services.
  • Accurate completion and administration of all required patient and company documentation.
  • Responding timeously to all call outs.
  • Assessing health status of persons involved in accidents natural disasters and other emergency situations.
  • Deliver high-quality care to patients of all ages including trauma and medical emergencies.
  • Monitoring changes in the health status of patients during transport to and from medical rehabilitation and other health care facilities.
  • Performing medical procedures / treatment at ANT / ECP / Ndip in EMC level of training.
  • Efficient and effective management of emergency medical and trauma calls as per company standards policies and procedures.
  • Recording information on patients conditions and treatment on Patient Report Form (PRF) in accordance with guidelines published by HPCSA.
  • Accurate completion of PRFs and submission for processing according to scheme and company policy.
  • Responsible driving of emergency vehicles in accordance with company policy and National Road Traffic Act.
  • Safe operating of company vehicles and equipment as per company policies and procedures.
  • Practice of strict infection control measures and maintaining a safe healthy and accident-free workplace.
  • Active participation in continuous development activities aimed at improving and updating clinical and industry related knowledge.
  • Compliance with Continuous Professional Development (CPD) guidelines published by HPCSA.
  • Represent the organization professionally in the community.
  • Be able to inspire motivate develop and lead other staff to ensure efficient clinical and professional emergency medical care.

Requirements
  • Current registration with HPCSA as ANT / ECP / Ndip in EMC.
  • Must have a valid Code 8 or 10 drivers license and PrDP non-negotiable.
  • Matric with Maths and Science.
  • Minimum of one years experience post qualification.
  • Sound clinical knowledge and evidence-based practice.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Ability to perform and remain calm under high pressure situations.
  • Excellent telephonic / radio communication skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with colleagues hospital staff and Doctors.
  • Fluent in English. Any additional languages will be advantageous.
  • Flexibility to adapt and cope with changes at short notice.
  • Strong administration skills with attention to detail.
  • Must be PC literate basic word excel and e-mail.
