Actuarial Expert (General Insurance)

Location: Sandton, JHB, GP

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Actuarial Expert specializing in general insurance to join our team. The Actuarial Expert will play a critical role in analysing and assessing risk, pricing insurance products, and developing financial models to support strategic decision‑making within the company.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct data analysis / modeling to evaluate risk and assess the financial impact of insurance products
  • Develop pricing models and strategies for various insurance policies and products
  • Collaborate with underwriters, product managers / other stakeholders to optimise pricing and profitability
  • Monitor and evaluate performance of insurance products
  • Recommend adjustments to pricing and underwriting guidelines
  • Provide actuarial expertise and guidance on regulatory compliance and financial reporting requirements
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of new insurance products and initiatives
  • Keep abreast of industry trends and best practices in actuarial science and general insurance
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science
  • Degree in Mathematics or an Actuarial Degree (preferred)
  • Qualified or nearly qualified Actuary designation (Fellow or Associate level) – preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in actuarial work within the general insurance industry
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in statistical modeling and data analysis tools (Excel, SAS, R)
  • Knowledge of insurance pricing techniques, reserving methods, and regulatory requirements
  • Excellent communication / interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with teams
  • Strong problem‑solving abilities and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
