Senior Actuary | Experience Investigations & Assumption Setting

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced and commercially minded Qualified Fellow Actuary to join a high-performing actuarial team focused on experience investigations, assumption setting, and driving strategic business insights.

This role is ideally suited to a technically strong actuarial professional who enjoys combining deep actuarial expertise with innovation, modern analytics, AI, and stakeholder engagement to influence critical business decisions.

The Opportunity

You will play a key role in leading experience investigations and assumption setting activities that directly impact financial performance, risk management, and strategic decision-making across the business.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading experience investigations and assumption-setting processes, including first-line quality assurance
• Enhancing investigation methodologies through advanced statistical techniques, machine learning, and innovative analytical approaches
• Driving the adoption of modern actuarial tools, automation, and AI-enabled solutions
• Researching economic, demographic, and industry trends to support robust actuarial assumptions
• Delivering actionable management information and insights that influence business strategy
• Ensuring assumptions are consistently and accurately reflected across the insurance value chain
• Collaborating across broader actuarial functions on strategic business initiatives and key deliverables

Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement

This is a senior role requiring strong leadership and relationship management skills.

You will:

• Lead and mentor a team of actuarial students
• Support actuarial exam progression and professional development
• Engage with senior internal stakeholders including Finance leadership, Executive Committees, and Board-level forums
• Collaborate with external stakeholders such as auditors, regulatory stakeholders, and business partners
• Champion a culture of excellence, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's Degree in Actuarial Science
• Qualified Fellow Actuary (FASSA/FIA/Equivalent)
• Strong academic background with consistently high results
• Preference for candidates with honours-level achievement, distinctions, and a proven record of academic excellence
• Exposure to machine learning, artificial intelligence, advanced analytics, or predictive modelling will be highly advantageous

Experience Required

• 7+ years' actuarial experience within life insurance valuations, corporate actuarial functions, or related actuarial disciplines
• Strong experience in experience investigations and assumption setting
• Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and translate complex actuarial findings into business actions
• Experience leading teams and developing actuarial talent
• Strong understanding of financial risk management and insurance business performance drivers
