Job summary

ASI Financial Services in Johannesburg seeks an experienced Actuarial Manager to lead risk evaluation and underwriting of commercial insurance, while supporting growth and profitability.

You will oversee IAS 19 valuations, pricing inputs, model development, and governance. The role requires leadership of analysts and delivery of clear, client-focused actuarial insights, with exposure to data platforms and automation tooling.

Qualifications

• Near or fully qualified actuary with FIA/FFA/FASSA/AMASSA or equivalent progression.
• Minimum five years’ actuarial experience, preferably in healthcare, medical schemes, employee benefits, consulting or financial services.
• CMS accreditation and regulatory eligibility (where applicable) or progress toward.
• Strong knowledge of SA healthcare, medical schemes and employee benefits landscape and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Lead IAS 19 post-employment healthcare valuation and related actuarial reporting.
• Provide input into healthcare, medical schemes and employee benefits pricing and benchmarking.
• Develop and maintain actuarial models, dashboards and Python-based analytics workflows.
• Translate findings into clear, commercially relevant client insights.
• Support new business, tenders, renewals with actuarial evidence-based value propositions.
• Strengthen governance through peer review, documentation and audit trails.
• Embed governance, cyber resilience and information security in actuarial processes.
• Mentor actuarial analysts and manage work allocation, feedback and development.
• Identify automation opportunities using Power Platform and Python.
• Draft and maintain actuarial, data governance and resilience policies.
