Boardroom Appointments is seeking an Actuarial Manager: Reserving and Regulatory Capital Management to lead a Non-Life Corporate Actuarial team in South Africa. You will drive reserving, SAM, and IFRS17 processes, delivering insights for senior stakeholders and maintaining regulatory compliance.

You will mentor analysts, develop pricing and capital models, and partner with risk and audit teams to strengthen governance and delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science: Actuarial Science (Required)
  • 5+ years actuarial experience (Essential)
  • 3+ years in Short-Term insurance reserving and IFRS reporting (Essential)
  • 1+ years planning and managing resources for objectives (Essential)
  • 3+ years experience in SAM and IFRS reporting (Essential)
  • Experience in ResQ software (Advantageous)

Responsibilities

  • Manage solo and group SAM calculations and reporting for regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee end-to-end reserving processes, including methodology and assumptions.
  • Drive IFRS17 implementation and ongoing reporting.
  • Collaborate with HAF and auditors on reviews of SAM, Reserving and IFRS17.
  • Support risk team with ERM frameworks including ORSA and Stress testing.
  • Lead and develop a team of actuarial analysts and mentor staff.
  • Present insights to senior management and board committees to inform decisions.
  • Develop models for pricing, capital management and business planning.
  • Drive continuous improvement, automation, and risk mitigation in actuarial function.

Actuarial Manager: Reserving and Regulatory Capital Management

Manage a team of Actuarial Analysts within the Non-Life Corporate Actuarial team, reporting to the Head of Corporate Actuarial. The role is responsible for driving the delivery of high-quality actuarial solutions that support strategic business objectives by effectively modelling, monitoring and interpreting key metrics. This includes ensuring robust processes, providing insights to senior stakeholders, and maintaining compliance with regulatory and governance standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee both solo and group Solvency Assessment and Management (SAM) calculations and reporting, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee end-to-end reserving processes, including methodology development, assumption setting and engagement with business stakeholders on reserve adequacy and changes
  • Drive IFRS17 implementation and ongoing reporting, ensuring alignment with accounting and actuarial standards
  • Working closely with the HAF and auditors on SAM, Reserving and IFRS17 reviews
  • Supporting the Risk team in developing and maintaining ERM frameworks, including ORSA, Risk Appetite and Stress & Scenario testing
  • Lead, mentor and develop a team of actuarial analysts, fostering technical excellence, innovation and accountability
  • Present actuarial insights and recommendations to senior management, Board committees, and other stakeholders to inform strategic decision making.
  • Develop actuarial or statistical models to support pricing, capital management and business planning
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, enhancing operation efficiency, automation and risk mitigation withing the actuarial function
Experience and Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science: Actuarial Science (Required)
  • 5 or more actuarial experience (Essential)
  • 3 or more years' actuarial experience within a Short-Term insurance environment (Essential)
  • 1 or more years experience of planning and managing resources to deliver predetermined objectives as specified by more senior managers (Essential)
  • 3 or more years experience in reserving, SAM and IFRS reporting (Essential)
  • Experience in ResQ software (Advantageous)Actuarial Manager
