ENVIRONMENT

THE numerical expertise of a dynamic Accountant with strong analytical ability, excellent Excel skills, and an interest in expanding into operations and business process improvement is sought by a leading organisation in the Metals and Commodities sector. Joining its Joburg division, you will work closely with both the Finance and Operations teams to streamline processes, control costs, and enhance reporting accuracy. This will entail preparing and reviewing monthly management accounts and supporting schedules, processing and reconciling journals, accruals, prepayments and intercompany transactions while analysing large data sets and maintaining sound financial controls. The successful incumbent must possess a BCom Accounting Degree or equivalent tertiary qualification with at least 3 years’ Accounting experience in a commercial or corporate environment with Advanced Excel proficiency (pivot tables, formulas, data manipulation) and experience with Sage, Xero, Pastel or SAP.

DUTIES
  • Prepare and review monthly management accounts and supporting schedules.
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
  • Process and reconcile journals, accruals, prepayments, and intercompany transactions.
  • Collaborate with the operations team on cost tracking, supplier analysis, and logistics spend.
  • Provide insights to improve operational efficiency and profitability.
  • Analyse large data sets using advanced Excel tools (pivot tables, lookups, formulas).
  • Maintain sound financial controls and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
  • Prepare VAT, tax, and other statutory submissions.
REQUIREMENTS
  • BCom Accounting or equivalent tertiary qualification.
Experience / Skills
  • Minimum 3 years’ Accounting experience in a commercial or corporate environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, data manipulation).
  • Experience with ERP / accounting systems such as Sage, Xero, Pastel, or SAP.
  • Strong understanding of financial processes, reconciliations, and reporting principles.
