Qualifications

  • Experience with balance sheet reconciliations, monthly reporting and debtors management.

Responsibilities

Job Title: Accountant

Location: Capricorn Park, Muizenberg

Work arrangement: Office based, Monday to Friday

CTC: R35,000 - R40,000 cost to company per month (including medical aid and pension fund)

Our client is an established and growing import and wholesale business supplying products nationally. They are looking for an experienced and commercially minded Accountant to join the finance team and take ownership of key financial functions that support the continued growth of the business.

This is a hands-on role for a detail-oriented professional who works well with others, takes initiative and can manage large volumes accurately in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate must be technically strong, advanced in Excel, comfortable working with different personalities and able to communicate assertively and professionally.

Key responsibilities
Financial reconciliations and reporting
  • Perform accurate and timely balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Prepare monthly management reports and supporting schedules.
  • Maintain and update the fixed asset register.
Debtors management
  • Take full ownership of the debtors function.
  • Process receipts, reconcile customer accounts and follow up on outstanding balances.
Audit
  • Assist with the preparation and execution of the annual audit, including schedules and supporting documentation.
Tax and compliance
  • Prepare and submit VAT, Income Tax and Ad Valorem returns accurately and on time.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable tax and regulatory requirements.
  • Support tax planning initiatives.
HR finance partnering
  • Act as the finance business partner to HR on finance-related matters.
  • Support leave management and calculate incentives and commissions.
Minimum requirements for Application
  • An NQF Level 7 qualification in Accounting, Finance or a closely related field, such as a BCom Accounting degree or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 3 years' relevant accounting experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of VAT and Income Tax requirements; knowledge of Ad Valorem tax is highly advantageous.
  • Practical experience in balance sheet reconciliations, monthly reporting and debtors management.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong overall technical ability.
  • Experience using accounting or ERP software; NetSuite experience is advantageous.
  • Excellent attention to detail, sound analytical ability and the capacity to manage high volumes and competing deadlines.
  • The ability to work independently, collaborate across departments and communicate confidently and assertively.
Highly advantageous
  • Registration with, or a professional designation from, a recognised accounting body such as SAICA, SAIPA, CIMA, ACCA, CIBA or IRBA.
  • Completed SAICA or SAIPA training contract or articles.
  • Experience in an import, wholesale or distribution environment.
