Job Overview
An accounting and advisory services firm is seeking an experienced Accountant with a strong focus on tax compliance and advisory services for both individuals and entities.
This is a permanent, full-time position offering flexibility, with an 8‑hour workday and core working hours from 09:00 to 15:00.
The role follows a hybrid model; it will initially be office‑based for training and orientation during the first few months, after which the successful candidate will have the option to work from home on Wednesdays.
Responsibilities
- Take full ownership of a portfolio of key clients, managing SARS eFiling, PAYE, payroll submissions, EMP/EMP reconciliations, income tax return submissions, and resolving SARS queries.
- Deliver all aspects of each client's accounting, tax, payroll and advisory requirements.
- Manage tax compliance for individuals, trusts and companies, including provisional and annual income tax returns.
- Submit VAT, PAYE, UIF and SDL via SARS eFiling.
- Process and reconcile EMP and EMP returns, including bi‑annual submissions to SARS.
- Oversee payroll tax submissions and ensure compliance with tax and labour regulations.
- Handle SARS queries and audits, including preparation of supporting documentation and direct liaison with SARS.
- Generate and issue tax certificates and IRP5s as required.
- Advise clients on tax planning opportunities and implications.
- Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date tax records for all clients.
- Deliver monthly management accounts, when required, using Xero, QuickBooks Online or Sage.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication and service.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or similar (essential).
- Minimum 15 years' experience in accounting, with a focus on tax.
- Thorough knowledge of SARS eFiling and tax processes for various entity types.
- Experience handling SARS queries and audits independently.
- SAIPA or SAICA certification is an advantage, but not required.
- Proficient in Xero, QuickBooks Online or Sage (at least one).
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage a client portfolio effectively.
- Strong business acumen and a proactive, tech‑savvy approach.
