The Accountant role will take ownership of core accounting and reporting functions, while supporting the Financial Manager on strategic and compliance matters.
You will ensure accurate processing, reporting, and compliance across Byte Orbit and its associated entities, while contributing to cashflow management, management accounts, and financial planning.
This role is ideal for someone with 4–5 years' experience who wants to grow into a broader finance leadership role in a dynamic tech environment. Please note that we use third-party systems to facilitate the process.
Responsibilities
- Process, review and oversee accurate and timely recording of financial transactions (Xero, SimplePay).
- Process, review and oversee reconciliations (bank, suppliers, intercompany) and resolve discrepancies.
- Process, review and prepare VAT, PAYE / EMP submissions and assist with provisional tax.
- Process and oversee invoicing, customer reconciliations, and supplier onboarding (FICA).
- Ensure timely submission of payments for approval.
- Support procurement and expense management processes.
- Payroll processing – ensuring accuracy of salaries, deductions, and submissions; submit UIF / UI-19 and SARS declarations.
- Assist with providing Annual Financial Statements within 3 months after the accounting records have been finalised for the relevant period.
- Prepare annual financial statements and monthly management accounts.
- Assist the Financial Manager with long‑term financial planning and financial risk assessment, cost optimisation, and performance analysis.
- Support investor and board reporting with accurate financial packs and audit readiness.
- Ensure tax and regulatory compliance across all entities, manage internal controls and audit readiness, and maintain accurate filing of statutory and financial records.
- Collaborate with bookkeepers and junior staff to resolve queries, provide mentorship and guidance on accounting best practices, liaise with banks, insurers, and external auditors, and assist the executive team in presentations and decision‑making.
Qualifications
- Relevant accounting qualification (Diploma, Degree or Equivalent).
- A professional designation (SAIPA / CIBA / CIMA) will be advantageous.
- 4–5 years’ experience in an accounting role (tech industry advantageous).
- Proficiency in Xero and payroll software (SimplePay preferred).
- Experience with SARS submissions and financial reporting.
- Audit and compliance exposure is an advantage.
