Accountant Position
RMI is the largest employers' and business representative organisation in the South African Retail motor industry, with more than 7,000 member establishments covering all sectors of the retail motor industry, as well as the vehicle body building and component manufacturing sectors.
We are currently looking for an Accountant to join our organisation.
This position will be based in Gauteng (Midrand).
The successful candidate will be responsible for the efficient management of all finance activities and related reconciliations on the full trial balance of the RMI and Associations.
Responsibilities
- Keeping strict and appropriate records to run both internal and external audits.
- Statutory payments on behalf of RMI.
- Balancing all accounts and resolving all tax-related queries.
- Maintaining full records related to vendors including BBBEE and POPIA compliance.
- Controlling stock and fixed assets for the entire RMI and ensuring adequate insurance cover for all assets.
- Managing all finance activities related to payroll and benefits.
- Providing financial reporting to identified stakeholders.
- Financial reconciliations including balance sheet and income statement accounts.
- Tracking stock correctness, finding reasons for differences, completing reconciliations.
- Controlling and monitoring all fixed assets and ensuring full insurance coverage, including cybersecurity claims.
- Full database function, including understanding of the RMI Constitution and its application.
- Service provider tracking and administration based on the approved RMI Procurement Policy, including SLAs, BBBEE, and POPIA.
- Checking and verifying all vendor reconciliations prior to approval and payment.
- Financial reporting on all aspects of the administration function.
- Controlling fleet cards, commissions and other staff benefits for inclusion in payroll.
- Completion, checking and submission of statutory returns.
- Monitoring and controlling internal and external audits.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of financial experience.
- B Com Degree or 3‑year accounting diploma OR qualified by extensive experience (NQF6/7).
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Experience with statutory payments, tax queries, and vendor reconciliation.
- Ability to control stock, fixed assets, and insurance coverage.
- Proficiency in payroll, benefits management, and financial reporting.
- Excellent communication skills and stakeholder management.
