Reports To: Financial Manager – Hotels (with dotted line to Head of Finance) | Location: Constantia Nek (Hout Bay).
Role Purpose
The accountant will play a key role in the day‑to‑day financial management of the Tintswalo Hotel portfolio. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate accounting records, timely month‑end close, compliance with statutory requirements, and providing financial support to operations.
The accountant will act as a link between the hotel operations teams, AP controllers, and the finance function to ensure financial data integrity and effective reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Accounting & Reporting: Maintain accurate general ledger postings for all hotel entities within the portfolio. Prepare monthly journals including accruals, prepayments, provisions, depreciation, and intercompany recharges. Perform reconciliations for all key balance sheet accounts (bank, debtors, creditors, VAT, payroll clearing, etc.).
- Assist with month‑end close, ensuring P&L and balance sheet schedules are prepared in line with group deadlines. Support the Financial Manager with preparation of management accounts packs, commentary, and variance analysis.
- Accounts Payable & Receivable: Review AP controller postings for accuracy and compliance with approval workflows. Ensure supplier statements are reconciled and that payment runs are supported by approved documentation. Maintain the AR ledger, ensuring timely invoicing, allocation of receipts, and follow‑up on outstanding balances.
- Hotel Operations Support: Work closely with hotel GMs and operations teams to ensure revenue and cost capture is accurate. Assist in the review of GP margins, occupancy‑driven revenue recognition, and inventory reconciliations (e.g., Marketman/stock controls). Provide ad‑hoc financial analysis and reporting to support decision‑making in the hotel operations compliance & controls.
- Ensure VAT returns, EMP, and other statutory submissions are prepared and filed accurately and on time. Maintain compliance with internal financial policies, approval hierarchies, and audit requirements. Assist with annual external audits, providing schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
- Systems & Process Improvements: Support ongoing integration of hotel systems (Benson PMS, Lightspeed POS, Marketman, Hubdoc, ApprovalMax, Xero). Identify opportunities to improve automation, controls, and reporting across the portfolio.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree / National Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent.
- SAIPA / SAICA / CIMA articles (non‑negotiable).
- Minimum 2 – 5 years' experience in a similar accounting role, preferably in hospitality, hotels, must have experience working in a multi‑entity environment.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge (IFRS for SMEs / GAAP).
- Proficient in accounting systems (Xero preferred), with advanced Excel skills (Pivot tables, VLOOKUP, Macros).
