Reports To: Principal
Purpose of Role: The Assistant Principal drives student achievement as an instructional leader by providing coaching and professional development to benefit classroom instruction and the Learning Lab. The Assistant Principal supports the Principal in providing teachers, blended learning facilitators, and PE coaches the training and support necessary to be highly effective educators. The role is integral to SPARK Schools culture and to delivering rigorous, engaging learning experiences for scholars.
Responsibilities
- Ensure continual professional development of educators by coaching instructional staff to achieve goals in individualised professional growth plans; design and facilitate weekly faculty professional development and arrange for individual growth opportunities.
- Support student achievement by setting clear expectations for excellent teaching across content areas; maintain a regular schedule of observations and hold review meetings to improve instruction and reinforce SPARK culture and behaviour management.
- Implement the network\'s rigorous curriculum aligned to and extending the South African national curriculum.
- Implement online curriculum and small-group tutoring in the Learning Lab aligned to classroom instruction.
- Facilitate an assessment and data-analysis cycle to analyse student performance and identify areas for targeted instruction.
- Collaborate with school leadership to manage instructional staff, including termly and final evaluations; participate in staff recruitment and onboarding.
- Define and communicate network-wide policies and procedures to parents, students, staff and community; implement disciplinary policies.
- Participate in staff development opportunities and conduct oneself professionally at SPARK events and with stakeholders.
Qualifications & Requirements
- English language fluency
- Completed B.Ed or PGCE; Honours or Master\'s in Education preferred
- Familiarity with high school matric requirements (CAPS) and SACE registration
- A clear criminal record
- Minimum 3–5 years of excellent classroom instruction; management experience in a school environment
