Overview

FET Phase AS and A level History Teacher (Ruimsig Secondary) – Nova Pioneer is looking for a History Teacher to teach Senior Phase (Cambridge IGCSE and AS / A Level) at Ruimsig Secondary. The role starts January and focuses on enquiry‑based learning within Nova Pioneer's innovative network of schools.

Nova Pioneer is a pan‑African, independent network of schools offering high quality, accessible education from pre‑primary through secondary school, with 15 schools in South Africa and Kenya and plans to launch schools in the next decade.

We use an enquiry‑based learning approach to encourage students to ask why, and to develop thinking through exploration, investigation and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design rigorous, enquiry‑based lesson plans
  • Prepare students to sit IGCSE, AS and A‑level exams
  • Deliver engaging enquiry‑based lessons supported by technology
  • Observe, coach and model teaching for new teachers
  • Infuse joy and passion for learning into lessons
  • Set and communicate rigorous goals and provide actionable student feedback
  • Conduct ongoing assessment and use data to adjust instruction
  • Attend weekly feedback meetings with Deans and learning designers
  • Participate in professional growth activities, team meetings, and coaching
  • Communicate regularly with parents via email, phone, and conferences
  • Contribute to co‑curricular programming for at least one activity per term
  • Participate in collaborative teams and committees and fulfill supervision duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree with History as a Major or PGCE is required
  • SACE registered
  • 2–3 years of teaching History experience
  • Ability to lead a classroom independently
  • You love teaching and care about each student's success
  • Understanding of enquiry‑based, student‑centered learning
  • Strong connection with the relevant age group
  • Team player with problem‑solving skills
  • Adept at using technology for instruction
