Job summary
A marine staffing company is seeking a skilled 1st Officer to assist in managing and operating cruise vessels. Responsibilities include ensuring safety, supervising crew members, and navigating the ship. Candidates should have at least 24 months of experience on cruise ships or private yachts, valid STCW certification, and strong leadership and communication skills. This position is based in Cape Town, South Africa.
Qualifications

- Basic mechanical and technical knowledge.

- Assist the Captain in managing and operating the vessel

- Manage the navigation and steering of the vessel
- Supervise and train other crew members
- Maintain and update navigational charts and equipment
- Monitor weather conditions and make necessary adjustments to the vessel’s course
- Conduct regular safety drills and ensure all safety procedures are followed
- Maintain accurate records of all activities and incidents on board
- Communicate effectively with the Captain and other crew members
- Ensure compliance with all maritime regulations and company policies
- Assist with the loading and unloading of cargo and supplies
- Handle any emergency situations that may arise
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Captain
Requirements
