Overview

The Security Control Room Coordinator is responsible for the administrative oversight, operational coordination, and systems support of the Security Nerve Centre. This role ensures that national physical security monitoring operations are efficient, compliant, and fully aligned with corporate security standards. The incumbent will act as a key liaison between regional sites, service providers, emergency responders, and internal stakeholders to ensure real-time threat monitoring, accurate incident reporting, and seamless coordination across the security infrastructure.

Responsibilities
  • 1.1 Administrative Oversight - Manage and optimize 24/7 shift schedules for national control room staff, ensuring adequate resource coverage across regions. - Maintain attendance registers, shift handover records, and overtime logs for control room operators and supervisors. - Archive all video surveillance records, incident reports, and system logs in accordance with internal data governance and retention policies. - Ensure current SOPs, emergency procedures, and escalation matrices are documented, version-controlled, and accessible to all personnel. - Coordinate audits of CCTV data, access records, alarm logs, and security breaches for compliance and legal purposes.
  • 1.2 Coordination & Communication - Serve as the national coordination point for communication between the SNC, regional control rooms, site security teams, and emergency services. - Oversee the national incident escalation process, ensuring timely notifications to internal stakeholders, including executive leadership when necessary. - Conduct daily shift briefings and weekly operational debriefs with internal staff and contracted vendors to ensure situational awareness. - Coordinate response efforts for critical events including network sabotage, infrastructure breaches, power failures, and natural disasters.
  • 1.3 Monitoring & Reporting - Analyze and verify national incident reports, system alerts, and operator logs to ensure accurate documentation of all events. - Review security trend data, heatmaps, and incident frequency reports to identify vulnerable sites or repeat security threats. - Consolidate and produce daily, weekly, and monthly reports on national security events, system status, and incident resolution outcomes. - Monitor operator compliance with SOPs and flag discrepancies or procedural failures to management.
  • 1.4 System Support & Coordination - Act as first-line coordinator for technical issues related to physical security systems such as VMS (Milestone), AMS (Babylon), alarms, sensors, and access control. - Coordinate vendor and internal technical team support tickets, ensuring timely resolution and minimal downtime. - Monitor real-time system dashboards to detect faults, failed integrations, or offline devices across the national estate. - Support infrastructure maintenance schedules, software updates, and commissioning of new equipment. - Assist in testing, implementation, and documentation of new physical security technologies and system upgrades.
  • 1.5 Training & Support - Facilitate induction and training of new control room operators, ensuring full understanding of national security systems, policies, and procedures. - Maintain a national training matrix to track operator competencies, certifications, and license renewals (e.g., PSIRA). - Conduct refresher training and knowledge assessments to ensure continual compliance and operational efficiency. - Promote a disciplined, professional, and proactive control room culture focused on threat detection and risk prevention.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
  • Education: required - Matric (Grade 12). Advantageous: Diploma in Security Management, Office Administration, or related field.
  • Professional Registration: PSIRA Grade B (minimum) required.
  • Experience: 3–5 years in a security control room environment, including administrative or coordination responsibilities, preferably in a national or large-scale setting.
  • Systems Knowledge: Experience with Access Management Systems and Video Management Systems and Surveillance Management Systems preferred.
Working Conditions
  • Based in a high-security centre.
  • May require shift work, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
  • May require standby duty and after-hours availability during national emergencies or high-risk events.
  • Extended periods of time in front of surveillance and system monitoring equipment.
