Position Overview

The Zyphe Telephone Interpreter handles calls on demand and renders the meaning of conversations between Zyphe and English speakers. The interpreter breaks communication barriers across industries such as Healthcare, Government, Insurance, Finance, Utilities, Travel & Hospitality, General Business, Law Enforcement, Court, and 911. Interpretations may involve simple or complex, technical or non‑technical subjects. This position does not involve written translation. The interpreter must work from a quiet, secure home office environment. The interpreter processes information quickly and concisely, recognizes cultural differences, and remains professional and courteous at all times.

Essential Job Functions
  • Respond promptly to interpreting sessions and conduct interpretation in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Render correct concepts and meanings following established interpretation protocol, avoiding omissions or additions.
  • Speak clearly in both languages using proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor throughout all interpreting sessions.
  • Remain calm during sessions, especially when primary speakers are incoherent, upset, or during emergency situations such as 911 calls.
  • Maintain punctuality and availability during assigned work hours.
  • Follow client instructions and client‑compliant protocol to ensure expectations are met with the Limited English‑speaking Person (LEP), avoiding interaction with the LEP without the client’s permission.
  • Understand industry protocol and terminology for Medical, Insurance, Finance, and Law among others.
  • Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and work in a diverse environment.
  • Remain able to provide company standards of service during highly emotional or stressful calls, potentially staying on long calls without breaks and handling high call volumes.
  • Ensure a quiet and secure home office environment.
Qualifications
  • Fluency in Zyphe and English with a strong understanding of associated cultural dynamics.
  • Ability to provide cultural competency and assess regional and accent differences to communicate with the LEP.
  • Excellent listening, retention, and note‑taking skills to maintain high accuracy during interpretation.
  • Ability to concentrate, remain detached, neutral, and objective, especially during sensitive subjects such as end‑of‑life conversations, pregnancy termination, vaccinations, and matters concerning sexual orientation and/or gender expression.
  • Preferred education or work experience in language‑related fields such as teaching, language assessment, translation, or interpretation.
  • Adaptability to any LLS technology enhancements that improve service delivery.
  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; reading and writing of requested languages highly preferred.
  • Current employment by a client of LanguageLine Solutions or an affiliated Business is not eligible for consideration.
Technical Requirements
  • Dedicated personal device for business purposes.
  • Desktop or laptop compatible with Windows, MacOS, or ChromeOS.
  • Tablet (iPadOS or Android) acceptable.
  • Smartphone (iOS or Android) acceptable.
  • Prohibited brands: Kaspersky products, Huawei hardware.
  • High‑speed internet: download ≥ 5Mbps, upload ≥ 3Mbps, ping ≤ 300ms, jitter ≤ 30ms.
  • Access to a quiet space free from background noise or distraction.
Physical Requirements
  • Operate keyboard and mouse; remain in a stationary position in front of a computer for most of the workday.
  • Operate company‑provided software and systems to perform all job functions.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to type or write.
  • Lift up to 26lbs.
  • May be exposed to moderate noise levels (computer, audio, telephone).
Other Requirements
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without future visa sponsorship.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Reading and writing ability in the requested languages highly preferred.
