Job summary

MVP Sports Clubs is seeking a Group Exercise Instructor to design and lead energetic classes for all levels, reporting to the Group Exercise Manager. The role requires MOSSA knowledge, current certifications, and strong customer service. Part-time schedule includes training and occasional substitutions to maintain class flow.

Instructors will ensure safety, participate in routine trainings, and support club events while maintaining professional appearance and adherence to MVP standards.

Qualifications

  • Current certifications through ACE, ACSM, AFAA, NSCA or equivalent.
  • 200-hour RYT Yoga Instructor Certification acknowledged by Yoga Alliance.
  • At least 1 year of experience teaching group-exercise programs preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid certification required or MVP in-house training provided before start.

Responsibilities

  • Arrive 10 minutes early, prepare music and equipment, start and end classes on time.
  • Maintain accurate class attendance records and meet attendance goals.
  • Learn new releases, follow MOSSA guidelines, modify non-MOSSA programs with Manager.
  • Keep areas clean and safe, oversee equipment usage and maintenance.
  • Orient new members on execution, options, and equipment usage.
  • Resolve member issues with strong customer service and enforce club rules.
  • Respond to emergencies and notify the appropriate authority.
  • Attend MVP training sessions as directed by supervisor.
  • Demonstrate movements and keep participants engaged and safe.
  • Adapt to changing responsibilities and company needs.

About the Position

The Group Exercise Instructor is responsible for providing state‑of‑the‑art group exercise instruction that contributes to each member’s health and fitness goals. The instructor will develop and lead fun, energetic, and highly motivational exercise classes for all fitness and skill levels, reporting to the Group Exercise Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Arrive 10 minutes prior to class start, ensure music, programming, and equipment are ready, and begin and end classes on time.
  • Maintain accurate class attendance records and meet attendance goals set by the Group Exercise Team Leader.
  • Learn new releases and programming, and follow MVP Sports Clubs guidelines for MOSSA program shelf life; work with the Manager to modify non‑MOSSA programs.
  • Keep group exercise areas clean and safe, oversee preventive maintenance, proper usage, and storage of all equipment.
  • Communicate equipment needs to the Manager, recommending replacement for lost or damaged items.
  • Orient new members, educating them on execution, programming options, and equipment usage.
  • Resolve member issues through effective customer service skills and refer to appropriate authority; enforce club rules and report problems to the Manager.
  • Respond to emergency situations and notify the appropriate authority.
  • Participate in department events that promote the club and group fitness.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of basic theoretical concepts and keep current with research and trends; keep certifications and memberships in professional organizations. MOSSA certified instructors attend quarterly education.
  • Substitute when permitted, noting the maximum of 10 classes per week.
  • Obtain substitutes for classes and report to the Group Exercise Manager.
  • Instruct each group exercise class format as defined by MVP Sports Clubs operating guidelines.
  • Demonstrate the fitness elements being taught, move in time to music, and safely demonstrate movements.
  • Ensure participant experience through original scripting, varied coaching, and a positive, encouraging demeanor that facilitates success.
  • Adapt to additional responsibilities, policies, and changes in company needs.
  • Attend regular MVP Sports Clubs training sessions as directed by the supervisor.
  • Maintain a neat, professional appearance: wear the MVP Sports Clubs uniform (see uniform matrix) and name badge.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Current certifications through ACE, ACSM, AFAA, NSCA, or other relevant group exercise certifications; specialized class certifications preferred.
  • 200‑hour RYT Yoga Instructor Certification acknowledged by Yoga Alliance.
  • A minimum of one year of experience teaching various or specific group exercise programs preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid Training. New hires without CPR or First Aid certification must complete MVP Sports Clubs in‑house training.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Physical ability to instruct classes, including but not limited to yoga, kickboxing, cycling, weight training, aquatics, etc. Must be able to bend, lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 lbs, perform rhythmic movements, hold isometric poses, and use fine hand manipulation.
  • Physical requirements: bend, stoop, crouch, climb, stand, sit, pivot; push, pull, and carry up to 40 lbs; perform office tasks such as typing, filing, and telephone use; and have adequate seeing, hearing, and speaking ability to maintain safety.
