Job summary

The Salvation Army in New Jersey seeks an energetic group fitness instructor to lead scheduled fitness classes, greet participants, and deliver engaging warm-ups, workouts, and cool-downs. You will teach proper form, motivate clients, and adapt sessions for a diverse member base.

A current group exercise certification is required, and CPR/First Aid/AED certifications are preferred or will be pursued. Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus; commitment to the mission and providing a positive exercise

Responsibilities

  • Provide group fitness instruction on a weekly basis or as scheduled; substitute instructor when necessary.
  • Greet and welcome participants; acquaint new participants with class procedures; deliver classes in a fun, engaging manner.
  • Teach scheduled classes, with proper warm-up, workout, stretching, and cool down.
  • Demonstrate proper form and technique; reinforce positive methods; teach breathing techniques during exertion.
  • Assist clients and maintain a positive exercise experience for members and participants.
  • Contribute to development, implementation, and evaluation of all group exercise programs for all constituents.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Exercise Instruction
  • Provide group fitness instruction on a weekly basis or as scheduled; serve as a substitute instructor if/when necessary.
  • Greet, introduce and welcome participants. Acquaint new participants with class procedures. Deliver the class in a fun and interesting manner. Stay after class to answer questions and interact.
  • Teach scheduled classes, beginning and ending on time; provide adequate warm-up, exercises, stretching, and cool down.
  • Teach proper form and technique using positive reinforcement. Instruct clients on effective workout methods; explain proper techniques, demonstrate exercises; identifies different muscle groups, and teach appropriate methods to strengthen specific areas.
  • Teach proper breathing techniques used during physical exertion. Instruct participants in maintaining exertion levels in order to maximize benefits from exercise routines.
  • Assists clients, answers questions, and maintain a positive exercise experience for members and class participants.
  • Assist with the continual development, implementation and evaluation of all group exercise programs for all constituents.
