The instructor will use excellent listening skills to engage members, lead classes, and uphold YMCA values while maintaining safety and a welcoming environment. Strong presentation and leadership skills are essential.

Responsibilities

• Uphold the mission of the YMCA and demonstrate nurturing, genuine, hopeful, and welcoming behavior.
• Provide courteous, prompt and sincere attention to members, guests and staff.
• Lead or guide group exercise programs for members with varying fitness levels.
• Educate members on sound ACSM fitness principles and YMCA recommendations.
• Maintain a safe, clean and functional group exercise area.
• Adheres to abuse risk management training and policies regarding boundaries with children.

The instructor will utilize excellent listening skills to engage new and existing YMCA members. The instructor will lead a program or provide guidance to new members that will enable them to reach their full potential and build relationships with members that move them along a continuum from a causal connection to a committed level through increased involvement.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Uphold the mission of the YMCA, and demonstrate behaviors that reflect a determined, nurturing, genuine, hopeful, and welcoming nature.Provide courteous, prompt and sincere attention to members, guests, participants and staff.Provide high quality programs that meet the need of the community and members.Acts as the connector for new members in class by welcoming them and introducing them to other membersFoster and build strong member relationshipsBuild and maintain effective communication lines with other group exercise staff and members.Communicate and enforce policies and guidelines for the group exercise arenaMaintain a safe, clean and functional group exercise area.Educates members on sound ACSM fitness principles and YMCA training recommendation and avoids diagnosing membersCompletes required abuse risk management training. Adheres to policies and procedures related to appropriate boundaries with children. Monitors building, staff and members and reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations to supervisor.
