Job summary

SeaWorld is seeking enthusiastic Ambassadors to join our team in San Diego. You will enthusiastically represent SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment with high energy and commitment to quality, while caring for our avian collection and supporting public shows and education programs.

The role involves daily avian husbandry, nutrition, safety, and detailed record-keeping, with opportunities to engage guests and train in animal handling.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Valid driver’s license required to operate SeaWorld vehicles.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; college background in psychology, zoology or biology is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily avian husbandry tasks including feeding, vitamin administration, and maintaining sanitary habitats.
  • Care for the avian collection in the assigned area and monitor animal health and behavior.
  • Ensure guest, personal, and animal safety by recognizing potential risks and communicating with staff.
  • Maintain detailed records and reports on animal status and care as directed.
  • Support education and public shows to develop speaking skills and stage presence, and assist with training activities.
  • Assist with veterinary treatments and handling as needed, including movement and transport preparations.
  • Occasionally assist other locations and areas in the park as needed.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent
College background in psychology, zoology or biology is a plus

Job Overview:
  • Enthusiastically represents SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment by displaying a positive attitude, maintaining a high level of energy and commitment to quality throughout all aspects of the job.
  • Provide for proper nutrition, appropriate and sanitary living conditions, and constant care for our park animals. These positions safely fulfill duties in animal/guest interactions, animal training, husbandry, enrichment, general public presentations, and research.
  • Responsible for all aspects of daily care of the avian collection in the section to which assigned
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform daily husbandry tasks including administration of vitamins and medications as directed, food preparation, maintaining a safe and sanitary working area for all animal habitats as directed by area leadership.
  • Responsible for daily care of the avian collection in the area to which assigned.
  • Responsible for guest, personal, and animal safety by developing and awareness of the behavioral precursors of potentially harmful behavior by both animals and people.
  • Make daily observations of animals and report any abnormalities to staff supervisor and team.
  • Maintain all animal records, equipment, area responsibilities, and communication requirements on a daily basis.
  • Provide and maintain a work environment that follows the established guidelines and safety procedures set by the department and park.
  • Function as an ambassador by displaying consideration, tolerance, cooperation, open communication, and reliability. Maintain a consistent attitude, motivation, and ability to accept feedback.
  • Perform all supportive roles as directed in education and general public shows to develop speaking skills and stage presence.
  • Provide proactive guest service through guest interactions a responding to guest inquiries.
  • Assist guests and trainers in preparation of and educational aspects during interaction programs.
  • Learns avicultural skills, bird biology and natural history through on-the-job training and independent study.
  • Learns mechanical systems and husbandry protocols.
  • Diet preparation and feeding; monitors food intake.
  • Inventory and observation of birds; acts on observations.
  • Maintains detailed and legible records.
  • Cleans, maintains, and enhances exhibits and support areas.
  • Assists with veterinary treatments and procedures including administering topical, oral, and injectable medications, capture, restraint and caring for salvage birds.
  • Assists with in-house moves and shipments out of the park; sets up crates.
  • Sets up for breeding season. Monitors nests, eggs, and chicks in exhibits. Monitors progress of eggs in incubator. Hand-rears chicks.
  • Gives presentations to guests on avian management and natural history.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with Ambassadors, Vendors, and our Guests.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Occasionally assist other locations and areas in the park as needed.
Qualifications:
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Have and maintain a valid driver’s license. Able to meet all the requirements to drive SeaWorld vehicles.
Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • College background in psychology, zoology or biology is a plus.
Compensation :
  • 16.85 - 25.00 per hour, contingent on professional zoological animal care experience at an AZA or equivalent facility

As a 365 day/year operation, candidates are expected to provide flexible availability to support year-round operating needs. This may include, but is not limited to, working opening, mid-day and closing shifts during peak and non-peak seasons, as well as weekends and holidays.
