Job summary

Newport Aquarium is seeking a Zoological Operations Coordinator to manage animal records and databases, train staff on record-keeping software, and supervise permit processes. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required for candidate.
• Five years of experience at a public aquarium, zoo or similar institution.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Access, Windows, Excel, PowerPoint.
• Experience with TRACKS database and similar data systems.
• Knowledge of AZA accreditation and industry compliance.
• Strong interest in conservation.

Responsibilities

• Maintains the institution’s animal records and databases.
• Attends conferences and coordinates with software programming teams.
• Leads onboarding and training for Hosts in record-keeping software.
• Manages permits for possession, transport, and collecting.
• Prepares reports for internal use and regulatory authorities.
• Assists in AZA document organization during accreditation.
• Performs basic chemistry tests for water quality records.
• Supports Zoological Team administration and safety policies.
• Flexible schedule including weekends and holidays.
