Job summary

YSS in Ames, IA, seeks a Part-Time Self-Sufficiency Advocate to support youth aging out of foster care and PAL participants. You’ll assess needs, create individualized plans, provide mentorship, and connect clients with housing, education, employment, and health resources while traveling to counties in northwest Iowa.

You will meet clients twice monthly, document progress, coordinate with schools and service providers, and ensure contract adherence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field and at least two years of related experience.
• Travel is required for this position.
• Experience collaborating with community partners such as schools, employers, and behavioral health providers.
• Knowledge of Iowa Aftercare Services or PAL programming.
• Strong assessment, case management, and documentation skills.
• Must be 21 years of age with a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Deliver Direct Support and assess immediate safety concerns and basic needs.
• Meet face-to-face with clients at least twice per month to assess needs and progress.
• Develop individualized case plans and provide ongoing support across education, employment, housing, and finances.
• Provide transportation when necessary to access services, work, or appointments.
• Coordinate with schools, employers, therapists, and service providers; attend meetings to advocate for clients.
• Maintain documentation and submit monthly billing; ensure compliance with Iowa Aftercare Services Network.
