Job summary

Thompson Child & Family Focus - A Child's Place Program in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Youth Support Partner to mentor youth and help them navigate child-serving systems across school, home, and community settings.

The role emphasizes building resilience, supporting youth to express needs, and modeling healthy social skills. Typical day includes 9–12 months of mentorship with weekly sessions, often in person or via virtual platforms—hours roughly 9 am–5 pm, weekdays.

Qualifications

• Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Must have a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
• Must have lived experience as a youth who has overcome mental health challenges and/or multiple systems involvement.

Responsibilities

• Provide education and assistance in navigating child-serving systems, support youth in expressing needs and goals, and model healthy relationships.
• Mentor 14-21 youth for 9–12 months in school, home, and community settings for up to 90 minutes weekly, in person or virtually.
• Maintain a non-traditional schedule around 9 am–5 pm, with weekends off and on-call as needed.

What will you do as a Youth Support Partner?

• As a Youth Support Partner in the Wrap Around -Charlotte department, you will provide education and assistance in navigating the child-serving systems (child welfare, education, behavioral/mental health, juvenile justice, school, primary care, etc.), support others working with the youth to understand youth culture, assist the youth to understand and express their needs, goals and decisions, role model effective behavior for the youth to show a pattern of having healthy relationships with others; showing positive and healthy responses to stress and conflict, and demonstrating positive social skills
• A typical day as a Youth Support Partner will include providing 9-12 months of mentorship to 14-21 youth in the school, home, and community setting for 90 minutes max weekly in person or virtual building relationships with youth in the community.
• As a Youth Support Partner, your schedule will be non-traditional, but typically around 9 am-5 pm, excluding weekends and on-call. Mentors serve their youth in person or virtually in the community in Charlotte and surrounding.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:

• Must have a valid North Carolina driver's license.
• Meet any credentialing, licensing, and privileging standards as it pertains to the department you are in.
• High School Diploma or GED, or associate’s degree and 1 year of experience.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite application software, excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Must have lived experience as a youth who has overcome mental health challenges and/or multiple systems involvement
