Youth Sailing Virginia, Inc. is seeking enthusiastic sailing instructors to deliver on-water and classroom lessons to youth ages 8–17, with a focus on safety and creating a positive, memorable experience for every camper.

You’ll supervise, coach rigging, points of sail, steering, and capsize recovery, while fostering a love of sailing. The role runs May–August 2026 as a seasonal position with a competitive hourly rate based on experience and certifications, and involves STEM-integrated

Qualifications

  • CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain before start date.
  • Experience working with children or youth in an instructional or camp setting.
  • Strong communication skills and a genuine enthusiasm for working with kids.
  • Ability to work outdoors on the water in all summer weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver daily sailing instruction to youth campers across skill levels — from beginners through intermediate sailors.
  • Teach rigging, points of sail, steering, sailing maneuvers, safety procedures, and capsize recovery.
  • Supervise campers on and off the water, maintaining a safe environment at all times.
  • Assist with boat rigging, equipment setup, and daily facility operations.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with campers, parents, and program staff.
  • Support STEM-integrated curriculum activities as part of the YSV camp program.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training days, and end-of-season debrief.
