Job summary

Grande Prairie Public Library District is seeking a friendly, dependable, and enthusiastic Youth Services Library Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate enjoys working with children, teens, and families and is comfortable providing excellent customer service in a busy public library environment.

The position offers a flexible daytime/evening schedule, approximately 20 hours per week, with compensation of $18.00–$20.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.

Qualifications

• LTA certificate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Previous library, education, childcare, youth services, or customer-service experience is a plus.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Comfortable working with children, teens, and families from a variety of backgrounds.
• Basic computer and technology skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a team.
• Dependable, professional, flexible, and willing to assist where needed.
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a public-service environment.

Responsibilities

• Providing courteous and helpful service to children, teens, parents, caregivers, and other library patrons.
• Assisting patrons in locating books, materials, and library resources.
• Supporting youth programs, activities, special events, and outreach efforts.
• Assisting with program preparation, setup, and cleanup.
• Helping maintain an organized, welcoming, and safe Youth Services area.
• Assisting patrons with computers, databases, and other library resources.
• Performing basic clerical and library-related duties as assigned.
• Working cooperatively with Youth Services staff and other library departments.
• Providing support for other library operations as needed.
