The ideal candidate is dependable, engaging, and able to balance warmth with professional boundaries. This is a part-time, hourly position requiring roughly 20 hours weekly, with afternoon/evening hours and some weekends.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with youth in diverse settings such as employment, volunteering, mentoring, camps, recreation, education, childcare, or community programs.
  • Comfortable engaging with young people and participating actively in group activities.
  • Commitment to welcoming, affirming, and inclusive environments for LGBTQ+ youth and young adults.
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people of diverse identities, backgrounds, and experiences.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to follow schedules, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Calm under pressure and good judgment; seek support when needed.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Able to work under Youth Programs Manager direction.
  • Availability for afternoon/evening programming and occasional weekends.
  • Reliable transportation to Sarasota/Manatee Counties.
  • Must complete required background screening.

Responsibilities

  • Support regularly scheduled youth programs with the Youth Programs Manager.
  • Be an active, engaged adult presence during programming.
  • Welcome youth and help create a safe, affirming environment.
  • Build positive relationships with youth while maintaining boundaries.
  • Participate in activities, games, discussions, and presentations.
  • Reinforce community guidelines and behavioral expectations.
  • Escalate concerns to the Youth Programs Manager or designated staff when needed.
  • Assist with attendance and basic program documentation.
