Job summary

Southington-Cheshire Community YMCA is seeking caretaking staff for before/after school programs. Candidates must be at least 16 years old and able to obtain CT Child Care, CPR, medication administration, and Epi-pen certifications. Strong character, good communication, and prior child care experience are essential.

A flexible schedule is preferred with shifts for before care (6:30am–9:00am) or after care (2:45pm–5:30pm), and adherence to YMCA policies and CT licensing regulations is required.

Qualifications

  • At least 16 years old.
  • Certifications in Connecticut Child Care, Professional Rescuer CPR, Administration of Medication and Epi-pen.
  • Must be of good character and committed to YMCA mission.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience working with children.
  • Ability to lift at least 40 pounds and promote YMCA philosophy.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with parents and be available for questions.
  • Notify parents of any problems or concerns.
  • Ensure proper staff-to-child ratio and arrange substitutes when needed.
  • Plan and implement age-appropriate monthly lesson plans with center play, homework time, and gross motor activities.
  • Support accreditation processes and assist in long-range goals.
  • Meet regularly with site staff and Coordinator and participate in trainings.
  • Follow all Southington-Cheshire Community YMCA policies and state licensing regulations.
  • Before Care 6:30am-9:00am or After Care 2:45am-5:30pm.
