Job summary

The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD is seeking a Youth Peer Support Specialist to provide youth-driven services, build trust, and advocate for young people across community settings. The role leverages lived experience to inspire hope and empower self-determined lives for youth.

You will travel within the community, support families and schools, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team in a trauma-informed, culturally competent environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• If not certified as a Peer Specialist, certification must be obtained within 90 days of employment.
• Must self-identify as a user of Mental Health Services with no crisis services utilized within a year.

Responsibilities

• Provide youth-friendly peer support to young people.
• Develop authentic relationships with individuals and families.
• Identify and share information about community resources for youth.
• Assist youth in identifying and building community and natural supports.
• Promote self-advocacy by helping youth articulate goals and desires.
• Collaborate with the team to engage youth and ensure services are youth-driven.
• Maintain regular communication and report safety concerns to the team.
• Complete electronic documentation daily for the medical record.
