Job summary

Brighter Beginnings MGH program seeks a dedicated youth support professional to deliver street-based services to runaway, homeless, and street youth under 22. You will engage clients, perform intake, provide case management, and coordinate with partner agencies to ensure safety and access to housing and services.

The role requires empathy, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to work flexible hours to meet client needs in a dynamic urban environment.

Qualifications

  • Requires high school diploma or GED.
  • Experience with homeless youth preferred; at least 1 year of related work.
  • Background check and pre-employment drug screening required. Random testing.
  • Valid NV driver’s license and clean DMV record; quarterly Driver History Reports.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with runaway, homeless and street youth, conduct intake and needs assessments.
  • Serve as peer mentor and role model for youth participants.
  • Coordinate and outreach with social service organizations and schools.
  • Participate in case conferences, team meetings and trainings.
  • Provide services that give youth safety, belonging, and independence.
  • Offer case management and referrals (shelter, clothing, transportation, etc.).
  • Identify youth victims of sexual victimization or trafficking and connect to services.
  • Maintain real-time HMIS documentation of services provided.
  • Facilitate connections to assessments, mentorship, housing, and transportation.
  • Lead or co-lead peer support groups and community activities.

Job description

This position will be imbedded into the Brighter Beginnings MGH program and provide street-based services to run away, homeless and street youth under the age of 22, who have been subjected to, or are at risk of being subjected to, sexual abuse, prostitution, sexual exploitation, severe forms of trafficking in persons or sex trafficking.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct continual, intense, individualized engagement with runaway, homeless and street youth, in areas where they congregate; conduct interviews intake and client needs assessments.
  • Serve as a peer mentor and role model for youth participants by sharing lived experiences in a professional, supportive manner.
  • Will provide coordination and outreach with other organizations serving the same or similar populations, to include child welfare, juvenile justice, schools, and the Continuum of Care
  • Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and training to ensure integrated care
  • Will provide services which ensure a young person a sense of safety and structure, belonging and membership, self-worth and social contribution, independence and control over one’s life, and closeness in personal relationships.
  • Provide case management and follow up services to clients who have been encountered, to include food, drink, referrals to shelter, clothing, transportation, etc.
  • Identify and provide services to youth who are victims of any type of sexual victimization and severe forms of human trafficking.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of services provided to clients, in real time (daily) in HMIS.
  • Provide connections to services such as assessments, mentorship, family reunification, transportation, emergency shelter, and safe and stable housing.
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate peer support groups, workshops, or community-building activities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of local social service agencies and programs, as they pertain to the homeless youth population.
  • Communicate effectively with persons from a variety of social, cultural, and economic backgrounds, and possess a demonstrated understanding and sensitivity to culturally diverse populations.
  • Effective written, verbal and listening skills. Independently initiates and responds to correspondence.
  • Must understand and integrate Positive Youth Development (PYD) approach and standards, as defined by the Program expectations.
  • Must exhibit professionalism and exercise appropriate judgment in crisis situations.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, fellow employees, other agencies and the general public.
  • Must possess the ability to demonstrate cultural and human diversity, professionalism, applied human development, and relationships and communication.
  • General computer knowledge, to include data entry, Microsoft programs, and Apple software products.
  • Must have the ability to understand and follow complex instructions and procedures. Analyze situation accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
  • Knowledge of social service work, interviewing/referral techniques, and applicable laws, statutes and regulations.
  • Experience with and understanding of homeless clients’ issues.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, as required by client case load.
Qualifications, Education and/or Experience:
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Must have experienced homelessness or have 1-year experience working with homeless youth.
  • Must pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening. Random drug testing is performed.
  • Must have a valid NV driver’s license and clean DMV record. Driver History Reports are required to be submitted on a quarterly basis.
