Charleston Diocese is seeking a part-time Youth Minister to lead a comprehensive ministry for middle and high school students at Blessed Sacrament. The role focuses on spiritual growth, formation, service, and leadership development within a faith-filled parish community.

The ideal candidate will organize catechetical and spiritual experiences, recruit volunteers, manage budgets, and collaborate with clergy and school staff. Evening and weekend work is required.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and lead youth ministry programs for middle school and high school students.

• Coordinate retreats, prayer experiences, Bible studies, and sacramental preparation programs.

Youth Minister

Position Title: Youth Minister
Classification: Part-Time

Reports To: Pastor
Location: Blessed Sacrament

Position Summary

The youth minister is responsible for developing, coordinating, and leading a comprehensive youth ministry program that engages middle school and high school youth in their Catholic faith. The youth minister fosters spiritual growth, discipleship, service, leadership development, and community among youth while supporting the mission and vision of the parish and the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Faith Formation and Evangelization

• Plan, organize, and lead youth ministry programs for middle school and high school students.
• Foster a welcoming environment that encourages young people to deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church.
• Develop and implement catechetical, spiritual, and discipleship opportunities consistent with Catholic teaching.
• Coordinate retreats, prayer experiences, Bible studies, and sacramental preparation programs as assigned.
• Encourage youth participation in the sacramental life of the Church, including Mass, Reconciliation, Eucharistic Adoration, and parish events.

Program Development and Leadership

• Recruit, train, supervise, and support volunteer adult leaders and mentors.
• Develop annual ministry goals, calendars, budgets, and program evaluations.
• Coordinate youth participation in diocesan events, conferences, mission trips, retreats, and service projects.
• Promote leadership opportunities for youth within the parish community.
• Maintain a safe, engaging, and faith-filled environment for all participants.

Communication and Collaboration

• Maintain regular communication with parents, parish staff, volunteers, and youth participants.
• Utilize parish communication platforms, social media, email, and bulletin announcements to promote programs and events.
• Collaborate with clergy, parish staff, school personnel, and diocesan offices to support parish initiatives.
• Participate in parish staff meetings and planning activities.

Service and Outreach

• Organize service opportunities that encourage youth to live out the Gospel through acts of charity and justice.
• Build relationships with youth and families to encourage active participation in parish life.
• Assist in outreach efforts to engage inactive youth and families.

Administrative Responsibilities

• Maintain ministry records, registration forms, attendance, and required reports.
• Manage ministry budgets and expenses in accordance with parish policies.
• Ensure compliance with all diocesan Safe Environment, Virtus, and child protection requirements.
• Complete other duties as assigned by the Pastor or supervisor.

Preferred

• Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Religious Studies, Youth Ministry, Education, Pastoral Ministry, or a related field.
• Previous experience in youth ministry, catechesis, education, or parish ministry.
• Experience leading retreats, mission trips, and volunteer teams.
• Bilingual abilities are a plus.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry materials up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to travel locally for ministry activities and diocesan events.
• Ability to stand, walk, and participate in youth activities for extended periods.

Working Conditions

• Work is performed in parish offices, classrooms, church facilities, and off-site ministry locations.
• Frequent evening and weekend work required.
• Occasional overnight travel for retreats, conferences, and mission experiences.
