Daybreak seeks a Youth Leadership Fellow to support the Montgomery County Youth Leadership Project in Dayton, OH. Under the YAB Coordinator, you will help coordinate the YAB Academy, youth leadership activities, and community engagement events to strengthen youth participation in planning and decision-making.

This grant-funded, part-time role through December 2026 offers hands-on experience in youth development, nonprofit coordination, and systems change for an emerging professional.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
  • Experience working with youth and young adults preferred.
  • Must have lived experience with homelessness and/or housing instability as a child, youth, or young adult.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with coordinating participant communications, reminders, scheduling, and follow-up.
  • Assist with planning YAB Academy sessions and meeting logistics.
  • Prepare materials, track attendance, and document discussions and action items for YAB meetings.
  • Help participants develop leadership portfolios and showcase accomplishments.
  • Support outreach and recruitment activities for Youth Advisory Board participation.
  • Document youth feedback and assist in preparing summaries, reports, and presentations.

Position Summary

The Youth Leadership Fellow plays a key support role in implementing the Montgomery County Youth Leadership Project, a leadership development initiative designed to strengthen and sustain the Youth Advisory Board (YAB). Under the supervision of the YAB Coordinator, the Fellow will assist with day‑to‑day coordination of the YAB Academy, youth leadership activities, community engagement events, and system improvement projects while gaining valuable professional experience in youth development, project coordination, community engagement, and systems change.

This fellowship is intended to provide a meaningful workforce development opportunity for an emerging professional interested in youth leadership, community organizing, homelessness services, public administration, nonprofit management, or social services.

This is a grant funded position slated through December 2026 with possibility to extend beyond. Part‑time – 20 hours per week.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Youth Advisory Board (YAB) Support
    • Assist with coordinating participant communications, including reminders, scheduling assistance, and follow‑up correspondence.
    • Assist with the planning of YAB Academy sessions.
    • Support Youth Advisory Board meetings by preparing materials, tracking attendance, and documenting discussions and action items.
    • Assist participants in developing and maintaining leadership portfolios showcasing their accomplishments and work products.
    • Support youth engagement activities designed to increase youth participation in community planning and decision‑making.
  • Program Coordination and Administration
    • Maintain attendance logs and other required documentation.
    • Collect and organize participant materials, feedback, presentations, and project deliverables.
    • Assist with meeting logistics, room reservations, technology setup, refreshments, and participant support.
    • Support coordination of academy schedules, training materials, and resource distribution.
  • Community Engagement and Resource Activities
    • Assist with planning and coordination of community resource exploration activities.
    • Coordinate communication with community partners participating in resource tours and educational experiences.
    • Assist youth participants in preparing for community engagement opportunities and leadership events.
    • Support outreach and recruitment activities for Youth Advisory Board participation.
  • System Improvement and Youth Consultation Activities
    • Assist in scheduling and coordinating youth consultation sessions.
    • Help document youth feedback, recommendations, and observations gathered during consultations.
    • Support preparation of summaries, reports, and presentations for project staff and community partners.
    • Assist with projects designed to elevate youth voice and strengthen community systems serving youth experiencing homelessness.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned to support project goals and participant success.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience working with youth and young adults preferred.
  • Must have lived experience with homelessness and/or housing instability as a child, youth, or young adult. Firsthand experience navigating homelessness, unstable housing, shelter services, foster care transitions, couch surfing, doubled‑up living situations, or similar housing challenges required.
