Job summary

Office of Juvenile Justice – Swanson Center for Youth in Monroe, LA seeks a Juvenile Justice Specialist 5 to supervise youth and staff in a secure facility, ensuring safety, policy enforcement, and accurate reporting. In this role you will support treatment teams and participate in safety audits, while coordinating with supervisors on personnel matters.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or one year of experience in any field.
• Three years of experience in a residential, correctional, behavioral health, or group home setting with responsibility for rehabilitation, custody, or security; OR
• Three years of experience in Probation and Parole.

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily movement of youth and staff to maintain a safe, secure, and orderly environment.
• Conduct security checks, ensure doors/gates are secured, oversee youth movement during meals, education, recreation, medical visits.
• Enforce policies, prepare accurate reports, and maintain safety, custody, and control at all times.
• Participate in audits (ACA PbS), assist with policies, and train staff on safety programs.
• Support treatment efforts by participating in treatment team meetings and making observations.
• Respond to emergencies, conduct searches, and document all actions.
• Oversee time and attendance for subordinate staff; prepare evaluations and identify training needs.
• Serve as acting supervisor in absence of higher-level leadership.
