Job summary

Allied Universal is seeking a Youth Facility Security Officer - Visitor Access in Columbia, SC to safeguard clients across government facilities. You will manage entry points, verify credentials, monitor visitor activity, and respond to security concerns, using technology to document access events and communicate professionally.

This full-time role requires a high school diploma, 6 months security experience, and the ability to work varied day/evening shifts.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 months of experience in a security-related role.
• Access control and badge experience preferred.
• Comfort using a computer or tablet is preferred.
• Customer service experience is preferred.
• A background investigation will be conducted in accordance with laws.
• A drug screen will be conducted as required by law.

Responsibilities

• Provide customer service to visitors, staff, residents, and authorized personnel while carrying out security-related procedures and emergency response activities at a juvenile justice location.
• Control access to the facility by verifying identification and authorizing entry, issuing visitor credentials, and maintaining records.
• Monitor access points, report unauthorized access attempts, and document policy violations per site procedures.
• Respond to incidents calmly and document relevant details for proper action.
• Conduct regular and random patrols of assigned areas to identify security-related concerns.

What You'll Do:

• Provide customer service to visitors, staff, residents, and authorized personnel while carrying out security-related procedures, site-specific policies, and emergency response activities at a juvenile justice location.
• Control access to the facility by verifying identification, confirming authorization, issuing visitor credentials, and maintaining visitor entry and exit records.
• Monitor access points, entrances, and restricted areas; report unauthorized access attempts, suspicious activity, and policy violations according to site procedures.
• Respond to incidents and critical situations in a calm, problem-solving manner, notifying appropriate personnel and documenting relevant details.
• Conduct regular and random patrols of assigned access points, common areas, and the facility perimeter to help identify security-related concerns.

Minimum Requirements:

• Must meet DPSS/DHS tuberculosis test and MMR vaccination requirements.
• At least 6 months of experience in a security-related role is required.
• Access control and badge experience is preferred.
• Comfort using a computer or tablet is preferred.
• Customer service experience is preferred.
• Be at least 18 years of age for unarmed roles; 21+ years of age for armed roles.
• Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
• As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a background investigation in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws.
• Allied Universal will consider qualified applications with criminal histories in a manner consistent with applicable laws.
• As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law.
• Licensing requirements are subject to state and/or local laws and regulations and may be required prior to employment.
• A valid driver’s license will be required for driving positions only.
