Job summary

Independence Local Schools seeks a Drama Club Assistant Director/Choreographer for grades 5-6 to support the drama program for the 2026-2027 school year. The role focuses on fostering creativity, confidence, and collaboration through a musical production, including coordinating rehearsals and volunteer coordination.

The position requires experience directing youth theater or teaching drama, with strong organizational and leadership skills.

Qualifications

• Experience directing youth theater or teaching drama.
• Strong organizational, communication, and leadership abilities.
• Background in guiding middle-school aged performers is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supports Director with rehearsals after school (twice weekly, ~2 hrs) and supervise students.
• Assists in teaching acting, movement, voice, and stage presence; provides feedback.
• Collaborates with Director on blocking and movement.
• Communicates with PTO, parents, and volunteers about sets, costumes, props, and calendars.
• Helps lead tech week rehearsals (~16 hours across 4 days) for two performances.
