Job summary

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Experience and comfort mediating conflict with youth.
• Experience or skill in arts, media, dance, sports, recreation or physical education.
• Commitment to a strength‑based, youth development and trauma‑informed approach.
• Experience working or living within the community preferred.

Responsibilities

• Participate in planning and execution of educational, recreational, and personal enrichment activities.
• Participate in program recruitment and community outreach.
• Manage setup, operation and clean-up of activities and organization, inventory and storage of supplies.
• Encourage and guide participants in examining choices and following directions.
• Manage participant behavior and maintain safety using restorative practices.
• Implement daily routines, schedules and procedures.
• Maintain lesson plans, logs, and documentation requirements.
• Participate in ongoing meetings, conferences and training programs.
• Provide safe passage for participants from the center.
• Promote a non-violent and trauma-informed culture.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

The Youth Development Specialist plays a key role in setting a positive, safe and welcoming tone, and implementing programming. The YDC develops caring relationships with youth, implements group activities, and assists them in learning how to work together to solve problems in positive ways.

Reports to: Program Director, PS306

Hours: 18 Hours/Week; Non-Exempt

Major Duties

• Participate in the planning and execution of educational, recreational, and personal enrichment activities.
• Participate in program recruitment and community outreach.
• Manage setup, operation and clean-up of activities and the organization, inventory and storing of relevant supplies and equipment.
• Encourage and guide program participants in examining choices, following directions and becoming involved in program activities.
• Manage participant’s behavior and maintain safety utilizing strength-based and restorative practices
• Implement daily routines, schedules and procedures.
• Maintain lesson plans, logs, reports and documentation requirements.
• Participate in ongoing meetings, conferences and training programs.
• Provide safe passage for participants from the center.
• Promote a non-violent and trauma-sensitive culture.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
