Role Description

The Youth Development Specialist is a full-time, on-site role located in Jacksonville, NC. This position is responsible for planning, leading, and supervising daily programs and activities that promote positive youth development, including academic support, life skills, and recreational activities. The specialist builds trusting relationships with club members, provides guidance and encouragement, and maintains a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment. Day-to-day tasks include managing group activities, monitoring member behavior, implementing youth development curricula, and supporting individual goals. The role also involves collaborating with colleagues, communicating regularly with caregivers when appropriate, and assisting with special events and community outreach.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in Positive Youth Development and Youth Development, with the ability to foster growth, resilience, and leadership in young people.
• Strong Communication skills, including the ability to engage youth, collaborate with staff, and interact professionally with caregivers and community partners.
• Background in Education and Training, such as facilitating group activities, delivering structured lessons, or leading workshops for children and teens.
• Ability to create inclusive, safe, and engaging environments for diverse youth populations, with strong behavior management and mentoring skills.
• High school diploma required; associate or bachelor’s degree in education, social work, psychology, or related field preferred.
• Prior experience working in youth programs, after-school settings, camps, or community organizations is highly beneficial.
• Reliable, organized, and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment, with a commitment to the mission and values of the Boys & Girls Clubs.
• Ability to meet any required background checks and clearances in accordance with organizational and legal standards.
