Job summary

Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware seeks a Youth Development Professional to support the School Sites program at the Woodbridge Early Childhood Education Center in Greenwood, DE. Under supervision of the Childcare or Program Director, you will help develop and operate a quality after-school program for ages 6–12 in compliance with Delacare rules.

The role requires completion of applicable certificates, ability to pass background checks, and strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and positive youth

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must possess School Age Site Assistant Certificate.
  • Level II requires 20+ years and ability to drive 8-passenger van; First Aid/CPR or certification within two months.
  • Level III requires School Age Site Coordinator Administrator certificate and 20+ years and van driving.
  • All levels require FBI clearance and state background checks per Delacare regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in delivering age-appropriate programs for children ages 6–12 reflecting BGCDE core areas and Youth Development Strategy.
  • Ensure safe implementation of all programs, facilities and activities.
  • Supervise children within guidelines and maintain productive relationships with parents and school staff.
  • Present yourself as a positive role model for children at all times.
  • Contribute toward development of a positive identity and community presence.
  • Perform other tasks as needed.

Each and everyday girls and boys are left to find their own recreation and companionship. An increasing number of kids are at home with no adult care or supervision. Young people need toknow they have a place in their community where they can go. Clubs provide a safe haven for youth, allow them to meet with friends and be a part of positive peer groups. Club programs teach life skills, conflict resolution and focus on the development of character. Clubs also provide members with positive role models and a nurturing environment that help improve decision-making skills.

Job Summary

Under the supervision of theChildcare or Program Director, the youth worker is responsible for assisting with the development and effective operation of a quality school-age childcare.

Essential Functions

  • Assist Childcare orProgram Director in effectively delivering a variety of age-appropriateprograms and activities, which reflect Boys & Girls Club’s five coreprogram areas and Youth Development Strategy, for children ages 6 – 12.
  • Help ensure safeimplementation of all programs and activities. This involves but is notlimited to condition of equipment and facilities, age-appropriateness, abilitylevels, weather, appropriate use of equipment and supplies.
  • Assist Childcare orProgram Director in supervising children within guidelines established by Boys& Girls Clubs of Delaware, and in compliance with applicable statelicensing regulations.
  • AssistChildcare or Program Director in maintaining productive relationships with parents, school faculty and administrators and staff, and other visitors to theClub.
  • Present yourself as a positive role model for children at all times.
  • Consistently adhere to the policies and practices of BGCDE OCCL and Delaware STARS.
  • Contribute toward development of a positive identity and strong presence for the Boys & Girls
  • Club in the community.
  • Assume other tasks, assignments and responsibilities as needed or directed.
Minimum Qualifications
Level I
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Must have School Age Site Assistant Certificate
Level II
  • 20 years of age or older and ability to drive 8 passenger van (must have valid driver’s license with less than 5 points)
  • First Aid/CPR Certification, or completion of certification within two months of date of hire.
  • Must possess a School Age Site Coordinator Certificate from the Department of Education
Level III
  • Must possess a School Age Site Coordinator Administrator certificate from the Department of Education
  • 20 years of age or older and ability to drive 8 passenger van (must have valid driver’s license with less than 5 points)

**All Levels must be able to pass an FBI clearance, State ofDelaware Criminal History Background Check, National and State Sexual Abuse Registry check, and National and State Child Abuse Registry Check per DelaCare regulations.

Environmentaland Working Conditions:

Environmental and working conditions vary from indoors to outdoors; various meeting locations in and out of the Club; occasional statewide travel (e.g., training).Employees are subject to transfer from one department to another and from one club/school site to another as the needs of the organization change.

Physical and MentalRequirements:
  • Maintain a high energy level.
  • Be comfortable working with childrenages 6-12 in varying levels of physical activity.
  • Frequently lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions objectsweighing up to 25 pounds when preparing rooms for activities.
  • Typically bends, stoops, walks and sometimes runs on a regularbasis while interacting with children in various activities throughout the day.
  • Ability to perform duties effectivelyunder stressful conditions; ability to make decisions quickly and accuratelywith tact and impartiality.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbaland written instructions and communicate effectively both verbally and inwriting.

Monday- Friday
