Job summary

The Child Center of NY seeks a Youth Advocate to support the social and personal development of adolescents. You will mentor youth, guiding them academically, vocationally, and personally to pursue their goals.

Responsibilities include implementing SEL and College/Career curricula, setting academic goals with Motivational Interviewing, and facilitating individual and group sessions to strengthen skills and achievement. Staff development and community activities are part of the role.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Bilingual in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Bengali or others may be needed depending on location.
• Ability to plan and carry out assignments independently.

Responsibilities

• Implement SEL/College/Career skill-building curriculum and assessment.
• Develop academic and social-emotional goals with students using Motivational Interviewing techniques.
• Conduct ongoing individual and small group sessions with youth to build SEL skills and support academic achievement.
• Plan student activities such as school tours, trips, and events related to College & Career development.
• Participate in mentoring activities and assess youths’ progress toward goals and objectives.
• Be aware of popular culture and trends to connect with students.
• Demonstrate as a positive role model.
• Attend professional development opportunities to build skills.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
