Job summary

Boys & Girls Clubs Of The Tennessee Valley is seeking a Part-time Youth Development Associate at South Knox Elementary in Knoxville, TN. You will lead hands-on activities, plan weekly lessons, and ensure a safe, engaging environment for youth.

You will work with staff, adapt lessons for diverse needs, supervise buses and meals per USDA guidelines, and help create a welcoming space where kids build skills and memories while you grow professionally.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • 1–2 years of experience with youth preferred.
  • Must pass background checks and drug screening.
  • CPR certification offered post‑hire.

Responsibilities

  • Post weekly plans for parents/guardians and youth.
  • Encourage full participation in activities.
  • Identify alternative activities aligning with weekly lesson plans.
  • Supervise program areas to ensure youth safety.
  • Attend staff meetings and collaborate with the Club team.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization per standards.
  • Provide meals to youth per USDA standards.
  • Supervise youth on school buses.

Overview

Selflessly explore your creative side while making a real difference at South Knox Elementary of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley. As a Part‑Time Youth Development Associate, you will lead hands‑on activities that spark imagination, learning, and connection beyond the traditional classroom, building lasting memories for kids and yourself.

Responsibilities
  • Post weekly plans for parents/guardians and youth.
  • Encourage full participation in activities.
  • Identify alternative activities that correspond with weekly lesson plans to promote full participation.
  • Supervise and monitor program areas to ensure the safety of members.
  • Participate in staff meetings and collaborate with the Club team.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the Club per state and company standards.
  • Provide meals to youth in compliance with USDA standards.
  • Provide mild disciplinary action to youth.
  • Supervise youth on school buses.
  • Attend Club programs, activities, field trips, and other special events.
  • Create bulletin boards for youth.
  • Orient volunteers to the Club, youth, and service opportunities and oversee volunteers serving within the Club.
Qualifications – Skills & Abilities
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with staff, directors, youth, and the community.
  • Ability to meet the needs of youth of all ages and backgrounds and modify lesson plans to meet individual needs.
  • Efficiently use standard office equipment such as printers, fax machines, and phones.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to remain active and energetic for 6+ hours.
Requirements
  • 18+ years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1–2 years of experience with youth preferred.
  • Must pass local, state, and national criminal background checks.
  • Must pass initial drug screening and subsequent drug tests.
  • CPR certification (certification offered by Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley post‑hire).
  • Passion for children.
