Job summary

Monroe County Human Services seeks a Youth Detention Security Coordinator for the SSD facility serving pre-trial and post-sentencing youth. You will help ensure safety, manage security tasks, and support fire prevention in a demanding setting.

The role operates 24/7 under supervision of the Assistant Director and is part of the Emergency Limited Placement Program to accelerate hiring of qualified permanent staff.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalency is required.
• An Associate’s degree in a public safety, emergency services or related field plus 1 year security experience is acceptable.
• Alternatively 3 years of related experience or an equivalent education/experience combination.
• Current NYS Security Guard registration is required.

Responsibilities

Description of Duties

This is a security position at the Monroe County Department of Human Services located at a specialized secure detention (SSD) facility for pre-trial and post-sentencing detention of youth who are alleged or sentenced ‘adolescent offenders.’ The facility is part of the Monroe County Children’s Detention Center. Duties involve providing increased safety and security at the Center including addressing fire prevention. Duties are performed under stressful conditions and can include physically de-escalating volatile situations. The facility operates on a 24/7 basis. The employee reports directly to and works under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Children’s Center or other higher-level staff member. Does related work as required.

HELP PROGRAM : Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Program. This program streamlines the appointment process to allow Monroe County to hire diverse, qualified permanent employees quickly and without examinations.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma plus EITHER:

(A) Graduation with an Associate’s degree in a public safety, emergency services, criminal justice or closely related field, plus one (1) year paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in an occupation involved with the enforcement of peace and order such as guard, police officer, correction officer, forest ranger, or armored vehicle guard; OR,

(B) Three (3) years paid full time or its part-time equivalent experience as described in (A) above; OR,

(C) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : Current registration as a Security Guard with the New York State Department of State.
