Job summary

Perry Varner Educational & Treatment Facility at Dallas County Juvenile Detention Center is seeking a Detention Counselor to supervise detained youths, maintain safety, and ensure orderly operations in the facility. The role requires a high school diploma or GED, and the ability to work flexible hours and on-call shifts.

The Detention Counselor will oversee daily activities, assist with meals and transport when needed, and perform housekeeping duties or supervise detainees in that capacity.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalency required.
• Ability to communicate effectively with detainees, staff, law enforcement and others.
• Must be able to work flexible hours and be on call on a rotating basis.

Responsibilities

• Direct activities of detained youth in all areas and maintain safety at all times.
• Conduct regular detainee check-ins and maintain order in the facility.
• Serve meals and supervise visiting hours; may transport detainees to appointments.
• Perform housekeeping duties or supervise detainees in this function.
