Job summary

We Are Camp in Oregon is seeking enthusiastic Summer Camp Counselors to guide and support campers throughout their activities. This role is a fantastic opportunity to develop vital skills such as leadership, empathy, and problem-solving while ensuring a memorable experience for all campers.

Successful candidates will lead groups of campers, assist in their daily activities, and be responsible for their safety and enjoyment. Applicants must have CPR and First Aid certification, and be prepared for physical duties like lifting and climbing.

SUMMARY

Being a summer camp counselor is long time rite of passage for many people. It is a tried and true way to develop your leadership, interpersonal, problem solving, and stress management skills in controlled but dynamic environment. We Are Camp offers all of this with advantages created by our unique perspective and situation as an Action Sports Camp.

Compensation

$15.05-$17.00/hour

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for up to 15 campers during each camp for both on‑campus and off‑campus operations and activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Arrive on the scheduled pre‑camp arrival day.
  • Assist with set up and tear down procedures at the beginning and end of the summer. This will include some hard labor, employee/management evaluations and job‑related clinics.
  • Attend pre‑camp orientation, meetings and training clinics.
  • Live in Camper Housing and be available for all camper needs.
  • Report any accidents or unusual incidents to your manager and/or medical director.
  • Administer camper's medication when applicable as directed by the Camp Nurse. Work with Camp Nurse to understand the individual camper medication schedule for all your campers taking prescription or over the counter drugs during their stay at camp. Do so while complying all other camper privacy standards as well as any legal regulations and standards.
  • Drive Camper Shuttles as scheduled. If you are an approved driver you are responsible to meet all expectations laid out in the Driver Training Manual.
  • Know your schedule and arrive early to all assigned shifts.
  • Keep Camper housing clean, organized and disinfected to company standards indoors and outdoors.
  • Be responsible for the security of your camper cabin: lock and secure windows and doors each time you and campers leave. Make campers aware of your security procedures (equipment security, daily cabin security etc.).
  • Assume responsibility for leadership and guidance to your campers during their stay.
  • Setting parameters in the house, enforcing fair and consistent disciplinary procedures, making sure everyone is ready for the day & that they are well informed of all their options (activities, dinners etc.), answering questions and just being there for your campers.
  • Work with your co‑counselor(s) to determine a fair division of responsibilities within your house each session.
  • Document any major damage in housing that occurs during the summer (who, what, where, why, when). Report damage immediately to the Head Counselor and to Maintenance for repair.
  • Be flexible! Due to the changing nature of our business (snow levels, lift hours, weather conditions, camper numbers, camper behavior) your schedule and tasks may constantly evolve.
BASIC SESSION RESPONSIBY FLOW

Responsibly each session will include but are not limited to:

  • Sunday
    • On Campus: Meet and greet campers throughout the day and lead camp tours to familiarize new campers with camp and camp boundaries.
    • At the Airport: Intercept campers, collect their baggage and help them get checked in and then supervise them while they await their shuttle to camp.
    • Hold First Night House Orientation: This will include getting to know everyone, setting and explaining all house rules, going over emergency procedures and safety issues, collecting travel itineraries, letting them know their daily schedule, activities, meals, and answering any questions.
  • Daily Tasks
    • Wake‑up campers : every morning & bring them to breakfast at your house's designated time.
    • Deliver Campers to Morning Meeting: Ensure all your campers meet up with their coaches, prepared and ready for the day.
    • Afternoon & Evening Meetings: Be on time. Ensure all your campers are accounted for via roll call and encourage campers to participate in an activity.
    • Manage issues that arise with your campers
    • Enforce Camper Curfew: Perform a camper roll call to ensure all campers are present. Report any unaccounted campers to the Head Counselor immediately. Lights out will be determined by the Head Counselor.
  • Friday
    • Inform all campers of their pick‑up time, clean house, and help campers pack their belongings.
  • Saturday
    • On Campus: Wake up campers and deliver them to their scheduled airport shuttles, meet and greet camper parents arriving for pickup, and complete deep clean of camper cabins and other areas on campus.
    • At the Airport: Help campers get checked‑in for their flights and through security. (Detailed airport duties will be covered in Airport Training)
    • In‑between Counselor: We have stay over campers who need to be supervised. Counselors will be assigned on a rotating schedule to work these in‑between sessions over the summer. Duties include living‑in with the campers, and leading the pre‑planned activities.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Successful candidate must submit to post offer, pre‑employment drug testing, and criminal background check.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Repeatedly lift 75 pounds, move heavy luggage, climb stairs, ladders, ride a bicycle and be physically able to participate in all activities that We Are Camp offers.
  • Verbally communicate with campers, staff and parents, and provide information in a coherent manner.
  • Agree to random drug tests or drug tests required after any accident or Workers Compensation claim that holds drugs and / or alcohol under reasonable suspicion of cause.
  • Follow all We Are Camp employee personnel policies and regulations found in the Employee Handbook and Staff Training Manual.
